NPTC qualifications are developed with industry experts and employers to ensure they support the skills and needs of the land based industries.  BCA offer a range of assessments in NPTC City and Guilds certificates of competence.

  • CERTIFICATE OF COMPETENCE IN SAFE USE OF PESTICIDE KNAPSACK SPRAYER PA1/PA6

    About the Course

    This is a three day course consisting of two days’ of training followed by an assessment day. The course covers the use of a knapsack sprayer looking at the legislation, interpreting product information, personal safety, storage and disposal of pesticides, environmental protecting and record keeping. Day one of the course focuses on the PA1 foundation unit which covers the legislation through the approved code of practice and candidates undertake the PA1 online assessment at the end of the training day. Day two of the course focuses on the PA6 unit which covers the practical aspects and is assessed the following week with an independent assessor.

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN COMPACT TRACTOR DRIVING AND RELATED OPERATIONS

    About the Course

    This is a four day programme consisting of three day’s training followed by an assessment day. This course is designed to train participants in the safe use of compact tractors. The training covers pre-start and safety requirements, operation, recognition of all controls, interpretation of instruments, trailer hitching, three point linkages and the use of PTO (power take off) equipment.

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN THE SAFE USE OF PESTICIDES’ COVERING UNIT PA1 FOUNDATION PLUS UNIT PA2 - BOOM SPRAYER

    About the Course

    This is a three day programme consisting of two days of training followed by an assessment day. The course covers the use of tractor mounted hydraulic nozzle sprayers, covering legislation, interpreting product information, personal safety, storage and disposal of pesticides, environmental protection and record keeping.

    On the assessment day candidates will undertake the PA1 foundation unit which is an online test covering the legislation through the approved code of practice and the PA2 unit which assesses their practical skills

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN TREE CLIMBING AND RESCUE (QCF)

    About the Course

    This course covers accessing trees through climbing using ropes and harness to carry out rescues in a variety of contexts. The aerial rescues include recovery of both conscious and unconscious casualties whilst maintaining high standards of health and safety and conforming to current legislation and codes of practice.

    Candidates need to have a good level of fitness and this is a very physically demanding course.

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN THE TRANSPORTATION OF ANIMALS BY ROAD (SHORT JOURNEYS)

    About the Course

    THIS IS NOT A COURSE – WE ONLY FACILITATE THE ONLINE EXAM.

    This certificate is necessary for anyone involved in the transportation of animals by road on short journeys (over 65km and up to 8 hours duration) this qualification will ensure you meet the requirement for a certificate of competence outlined in the Council Regulation (EC) No1/2005 on the Protection of Animals During Transport and the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 2006.

    The qualification is species specific and candidates will need to register against one of the following categories:

    Cattle, Sheep, Cattle & Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Poultry, Horses or Game Birds

    It covers the legal requirements, journey planning, vehicle suitability, fitness to travel, causes and signs of stress in animals, space allowances, stocking densities, handling and animal welfare in transit and post journey requirements.

    This qualification consists of one compulsory knowledge based unit and is assessed by a computer based multiple choice test.

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN CHAINSAW MAINTENANCE AND CROSS CUTTING

    About the Course

    This is a three day course consisting of two days training followed by one days’ assessment. The course covers the following:

    Understanding operator safety during chainsaw maintenance.
    Being able to carry out routine periodic maintenance to a chainsaw.
    Being able to start and check a chainsaw.
    Understanding operator safety during chainsaw use.
    Being able to safely crosscut timber that is less than guide bar length in diameter.
    Stacking crosscut timber.
    The chainsaws are provided by the college and we also have a small stock of PPE that can be borrowed however for their own comfort candidates should ideally supply their own PPE (chainsaw boots, trousers, gloves and helmets).

  • LEVEL 2 AWARD IN THE SAFE USE OF RIDE-ON SELF PROPELLED MOWERS

    About the Course

    This is a two day programme consisting of one day’s training followed by an assessment day. The course covers pre-start safety and maintenance checks, identification of instruments and controls and safe operation as appropriate to Ride on Mowers.

    Students must wear full-length trousers, long sleeved tops and steel toecap boots. Ear defenders will be provided by the college.
