CLET offers a wide range of land-based subjects, which sit within the following departments:

  • Agriculture

BCA has a rich history in agricultural education; it was formed in 1949 as the Berkshire Institute of Agriculture.  After a period when agriculture was not taught, the subject was re-instated in 2014 and the first cohort of Agriculture students graduated in 2016.

The college owns 400 acres of land with commercial and rare breed sheep flocks plus poultry, goats, pigs, cows and camelids.  Through partnerships with local farms and our additional base at Farley Farms near Wokingham, students have access to a range of enterprises, which complement the college resources.

We offer a variety of certificates of competency, short leisure courses and industry accredited courses, all applicable to agricultural settings

  • Horticulture

The college estate is a key benefit for Horticulture students. The extensive landscaped grounds are created and maintained by students plus projects are developed with local businesses to develop skills in line with industry requirements.

We offer a variety of certificates of competency, short leisure courses and industry accredited courses, allowing learners to develop practical knowledge and skills.

  • Equine

BCA has excellent, modern equestrian facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas, extensive grass rides, eventing and cross country courses.   We have close industry links plus our very own programme of equestrian events including horse trials, competitions, coaching and clinics.

We offer a variety of courses including those affiliated to the British Horse Society.

  • Animal Management

BCA’s Animal Management Centre (AMC) has a reputation as one of the UK’s best college animal management facilities. We are also delighted to have been awarded with our Zoo License in 2015. The AMC houses around 1,400 individual animals consisting of 140 species including exotics, British wildlife and canines and rare breed farm animals.

We offer a variety of courses including dog training and animal behavior.

  • Floristry

BCA is recognised as the foremost centre for floristry training in the Thames Valley region and floristry students study design skills, use of colour, cut flowers/foliages and plants, and learn retail, business and customer care skills.

We offer part time courses at Level 2 and Level 3.
